This doesn’t sound like they’re talking about a baxxid. I don’t have a good alternative explanation, but something weirder than fear-of-kalgur is happening here.
It’s possible that the perceived danger is Isher.
This seems like it’s set up to make us think that Yannit thinks that baxid are dangerous only to subvert that expectation.
The only problem with that is that Yannit and Isher met face to face in the prologue, and neither had an issue with the other. https://www.valsalia.com/comic/prologue/29/
The “scarygirl” comment is Lopin thinking about Yannit.
Also, baxxid work in this mountains air ducts actively, and we saw a construction site in this mountain recently that required the use of baxxid daily. Their scent should be *everywhere*, and yannit has been totally cool until now.
Those quotes are Lopin thinking about Yannit.

Good point. I thought at first that Yannit was afraid of Kalgkur. But now I don’t know if she’s afraid of Kal or Isher. Isher’s species could be the threat to Yannit’s kind.
I forgot about the prologue. Yannit and Isher met there with no problem.
I don’t think it has anything to do with anyone’s species, especially considering she has never said anything, even with Ran actively checking for things that might set her off.
My best guess is either she is getting set off by Lopin being afraid, or, as the next page implies, something they may have brought in on accident.
poor Lopin, always having a scary encounter with Yannit… then again, Yannit seems to be like this with ALL the yinglets so far, lol
I don’t think I’ve ever seen Yannit that startled. At least Lopin is making an effort to get past his instincts, which I applaud him for.
Check out oops-264. I think Yannit is specifically afraid of Kalgkur, because he’s the one who caused the hullabaloo among the baxxid that set off her anxiety at that time. She might also have found out that he killed a man and be worried the he could kill again. Maybe she’s just generally afraid of the “claw-worms,” but she never showed any signs of that until Kalgkur’s judgment started.
Could be that. Or could be a species thing. I suspect we’ll find out soon enough.
More to the point, she operates by smell to a large degree. We have to remember that this whole sequence of events in the story thus far has only spanned a number of weeks; Kalgkur’s incidents a matter of a couple days. She might be able to pick up the blood on his arm blades, despite washing. It’s also possible that a baxxid going into rage mode releases pheromones unique to the state, and that indrel have an alarm response to it. Between the two, Yannit could be seeing “oh god we’re all going to die” in the air right now.
