Yeah, you do a great job on positioning and expressions! The overall art is a little rough around the edges compared to, say, Twokinds, but Tom’s also been doing that since dinosaurs ruled the earth and the GameCube was a new console. Also he went to some fancy art school about halfway through, and that improved his skills a lot.
If the Gamecube was new when dinosaurs roamed, what does that make of me? I was cognizant when the Super Nintendo was brand new.
I remember the NES still being on store shelves unironically. I had a friend who legit had a Turbografx 16! The Amiga was still relevant!

Still got my atari 2600 my folks bought new and that case you put it in along with a boat load of games. It still works even though some of the games have quit.

Those could be worth a lot on Ebay and such, even the games that don’t work.
The cartridge connector is copper and can corrode, and the the EPROMs might have experienced bit-rot. But, most buyers want the cartridge itself even if the game is non-functional. There is a lot of cool stuff going on in the videogame emulation crowd! You could sell each one as-is, listed as not working, and eventually there will be a bidding war.
Make sure you take good photographs of both sides of the game.
It’s one of only a couple things I have left from my childhood. Tornado leveled my folks place destroying everything for the most part. This was salvaged along with a few of my 80s transformers as far as toys go. Never did find my tonkas (the big metal ones), so you can imagine I am having conflicts on getting rid of it. Emotional baggage and what not. Maybe one day.
I still can’t get myself to throwaway/donate my old stuffed animals from family members passed decades ago.

I converted my Atari 2600 to a handheld several years ago. Got the idea from Ben Heckendorn. The 2600 is a VERY simple machine. It’s only got three chips… the CPU, the TIA (graphics and sound), and a chip that combines I/O and 128 bytes of RAM.

Boi, I may only be 18, but I still enjoy me a good session of NES play now and then. It’s nice to have one of the original ones, the same one my mom has owned since she was a kid! Shiny gold Zelda cartridge is cool too.

Though I think it’s been shown cats and dogs have evolved a better ability to digest vegetable matter since they’ve been living with humans, so perhaps yinglets are heading in the same direction.

But there are lots of Earth marine animals that superficially resemble plants, such as bryozoans and sea lilies, so we can’t really be sure what those alien foodstuffs really are. Though it would be ickier if they were living animals instead of plants, so I’m leaning toward that (first law of Kass’s Annoyances)

Scavengers eat whatever. Definitely not obligate carnivores. Yinglets make coyotes and dingos look picky.
They’re beachcombers rather than typical scavengers, hence the shellfish focus. Many of those are definitely obligate carnivores, and Yinglet teeth are those of a (highly specialized) carnivore. I’d say Yinglets are probably mostly carnivorous, supplementing their diet with whatever else they can scavenge. Foxes would be a good parallel.
Well maybe Lopin can find a nice basket to sleep in or a hole. I’ll bet bet Kass would allow Elim to sleep in her room if he asked. Well at least Kass has her own room again maybe she will need someone to bunk with her for security reasons, or to feel secure.

Yeah It is was one of the best games when I was a kid.
Chrono Trigger is still my favorite game. I remember when it was brand new too. I used to rent it from a movie place and hope my save was still there. It always was, I was the only kid in town who cared about games like that, the other kids all loved Madden and Sonic the Hedgehog and stuff like that. haha
I was also in a Sega heavy town. I had one friend who had a Snes too, and he lived out in the hills.
I tried to love Chrono Cross, never could get into its gameplay sadly. I like the story though, and the soundtrack is awesome.

Think it was mentioned that they have nothing in the front of the mouth to press the tongue against, hence they slur all “TH” sounds.
You need teeth to pronounce it cleanly! They can manage a sort of “pth” sound, but that’s it. Try making a tight “O” shape with your mouth and pronouncing “th” with your tongue against your lips. Kinda like that!

I actually managed to get a “th” by rolling my tongue and lightly pressing the edges of the tip up against my top lip (sorry if description isn’t very good). The trick then is getting your tongue back into position for most other sounds, but that would come with practice.
But yinglet tongues look like they’d be too narrow to pull off the roll, and I suspect the tooth might get in the way of that even more, although I don’t have one of either to test with so maybe it’d work…

It surprises me how many people don’t seem to realize that you don’t just use your front teeth to make the ‘the sound, but the ones on the side as well, and that *that* is why yinglets can’t make that sound; because they lack those teeth.
Apparently shellteeth do grow back after a month or so. I was wondering if Lopin was getting a gold replacement or something. Either he will have to eat non shelltooth required food for awhile or have someone break his clam shells open for him. Kass is his matriarch, guess he’ll have to help out.

Well, they do rather resemble rodent incisors.
Well at least yinglets don’t have teeth like cats, dogs, or horses. Cats and dogs teeth tend to collect tartar around them and get dental disease until the teeth rot/fall out. Horses Molars are very long and as they age they grind their teeth down but more of the tooth pushes out of the gum at an even rate. (They do loose baby teeth too.) But as the teeth wear down the form jagged points on them that vets and equine dentists have to physically grind down.
But it’s neat that yinglets regenerate their lost teeth. But do they also regularly shed their teeth every few years for the growing regenerated teeth? Would help protect their mouths from tartar build up and dental disease.

Hmm, speaking of Yinglet biology, I’ve been thinking about the female ‘fat bags’ in front and tiny yinglets with shell teeth.. Ouch. Then I realized, they probably use the penguin solution of producing colostrum to regurgitate, and odds are the females get to produce lots of that yummy stuff and store it those sacks. After all, we never saw a nipple and if it is for feeding it has to get out somehow.
The yuck factor of all that has gone before would have no equal to motherly regurgitation triggered by the calls of hungry young ones…

Man, I am really liking everything so far. This story has a kind of feeling to it that I don’t get from any other comic. A combination of the art style, the plot and the way it is told. The world that has been quite meticulously explained with a few mysteries sprinkled in. It all culminates into this wonderful world of Val Salia you have created.
Also, being a typesetter myself I do like the way you have been presenting the text into the story. Many artists overlook this, but you have done well to keep the text well presentable while giving it a brush of life.
I can think of no other way to thank you for this than to become a loyal Patreon follower.
It would be great if there were an actual forum tied to this site. It’d be nice for us plebs to have somewhere to go that’s somewhat more stable and well-moderated (I.e., not plastered with porn and jerks) than Reddit or 4chan. My skills in JavaScript are very limited, though- while I could learn on the fly and pull something together, you’re probably better off finding someone more competent.
Well, there was/is a forum, but it got completely taken over by bots.

I checked out the forum recently, for old times sake. I think I saw a message on there that basically said
“We are the bots. You will be assimilated. Resistance is futile”
It makes sense they’d have replaceable front teeth given the nature of their diet. Without this, a chipped, broken, or knocked-out tooth could lead to malnutrition. However, the interim between a tooth coming out and a new one coming in could lead to a brief period of such. Still, they must grow pretty quickly.
I’d guess that survival is going to depend your rank in the enclave or another organization–Lopin doesn’t really have to worry about feeding himself now that he’s enrolled in Ivenmoth and has some value to Kass and Ran. Likewise for any yings that have value to the enclave. Low ranking beachcombers would have to depend on their friends for help if they can spare any food, or the charity of other species. I’m wondering how baxxids view yinglets, too. Do they have the same scorn that most humans have for the junior species?
