Kass described Lopin to Vizlet when she first met Vizlet and Viracroix. Vizlet went home and told Bizel to find Lopin and bring him to her NOW. I think Viracroix kept an eye out for Lopin, or rather for the scouts hunting Lopin. And when he judged the time was ripe he hustled Kass off to the enclave in a hurry. That meant when the scouts drag Lopin to Vizlet, Kass is right there for it. Which is kinda nice to Kass.
I dunno if Vizlet knew about that part. Maybe she and Viracroix schemed it all out like a pair of scheming schemers who scheme. More likely to me, Viracroix has a number of reasons for making sure Kass was there when Lopin got captured.
1) Simply as a reliable witness to report on what happened with Lopin.
2) Kass would certainly demand Lopin face justice, though explaining his crime might get hairy. Hurting a human in Ivenmoth red, selling him something toxic? Yeah, time for the enclave to distance themselves from THAT guy. Kass would make sure Lopin falls into Viracroix’s hands. Happily, Vizlet handed Lopin to Kass, so that worked out even nicer.
2) Vizlet told Kass that the enclave ‘doesn’t have any secrets worth keeping’. Given that Narklet’s shenanigans caught her by surprise, she wasn’t lying but she WAS wrong. Viracroix knew, though. Enough to make sure his librarian has a standing order to alert him if anyone comes asking about human-to-yinglet transformations. He sent his fortuitous new yinglet spy in to snoop, but Kass isn’t his ONLY source of intel in there.
3) I think Viracroix did something kinda sweet for Vizlet, in a Machiavellian way.
He could have just told her Narklet’s up to something. It’d be a severe blow to her pride, that the big so-smart human had to tell her about the rat-bastard hiding under her very nose. It’d also be problematic to face Narklet when the only plausible way she could know is because Viracroix told her, which would prove just how deeply in bed with the humans she is. Narklet represents a bunch of united and anti-human traditionalist enclaves. Vizlet invokes their wrath at great peril.
But Viracroix sent Kass to be there when Lopin showed up knowing there’s no way in hell Kass was gonna willingly leave there without the fancy rat in tow. If Vizlet hadn’t done what she did, Narklet would have reacted…interestingly…to Lopin’s arrest by humans. Likely enough for Vizlet (who’s one smart cookie) to realize she needs to dig deeper here. Bizel would have begun his investigation anyway. Vizlet would learn the truth without a wound to her pride. And even if she realizes Viracroix engineered the whole thing, she’d realize he did it for her benefit, and only did it this sneaky way to spare her pride (and give her plausible deniability if pressed about WHY she suspects Narklet). Which means he cares about her enough to try and spare her feelings.

Come to think of it, since the emerging from the egg sac requires the tooth to be developed to a certain degree, wouldn’t opening the eggs from the outside allow less developed front tooths to join the gene pool? Yinglets could eventually lose that tooth through evolutionary change, thus lacking that tooth that hinders speech.
And lacking ze toof zat provides ze bestest perfect yinglet food. I much razzer talk like zis zan face a future vere I never eat anuzzer clam again! SO SAD!
So they lose the ability to get out of the egg themselves, the ability to use the shell tooth to open clams… and they lose a speech impediment. Why would they want that? That doesn’t seem like a fair trade at all.
Already taken care of wizh the great leader’s breeding policy. If the tooth fails to continue forming well, it’s unlikely he will have access to females.
Also, a concern from up in the reply chain, the LACK of teeth in the front close to the shelltooth to press a tongue against, is what Kassen said stopped him. So, might not help. (Possibly an ill shaped tongue for the job too.)

Wonder if Vizlet ever thought that some of the smarter yinglets may not have the physical traits lined up for them as well, especially in early embryotic and infantile development. Thing is, these things can get better. Maybe there was a nutrient imbalance with the female who laid this egg, while it developed. Shell-teeth grow constantly, and are replaced after a time. The smallness, well, the yinglets aren’t doing projects that require tight spaces, but they could make a good farmer or spelunker. That’s if they don’t have the brains to be an asset to the whole enclave, as an architect, a trades-yinglet, a SUCCESSFUL merchant, or an inventor, and I don’t mean stuff like the spiny spear….
Hmm. And Kass has the human learning for that. If he doesn’t have the right stuff, there’s always books that he can literally read for them, or teach them to read, idk, probably not the best person for that. Pesky guileless sneak Narklet may get in zhe way zhough.

Doesn’t Vizlrt respect Kass? She may think her capable of raising a yinglet and force her to do it. But then wouldn’t Kass resent her for forcing a child on her.
I personally don’t believe that Vizlet is going to force a child on her but maybe damand she take involvement in the care.

A likely solution: Kass is an officer in Izenmoth House. Just as the females of the enclave don’t typically do much with the children after laying, other than a bit of history here, a bit of trades information there, Vizlet could leave Kass out of the wording of the deal entirely, and Kass would still see the younglet quite often. “To foster understanding between our kinds, and to save ourselves a resource shortage in the coming years, the yinglet enclave sends a child to learn the Izenmoth ways. Nurture him well, and we will see just how much can be learned with proper guidance.” Or something alike.
Vizlet definitely has an evil plan, she has the look of a mastermind that just got somebody to spring trap. What kind of truck? Find out next time. Same Yinglet time, same Yinglet station 😀

I wonder if intervention to yinglets reproduction cycle and selection is legit. In csse it isn’t, Vizlet has a joker in her pocket in case she has to invoke a claim to Evenmoth or to have some pressure upon Kass personally. Just in case. She might make it just to show the patriarchs she war a reliable yinglet leader who’s making no bows to humanz. Or else. Or she just didn’t want to break the law with her own hands while Kass is not restrained by yingler traditions as a representative of humans and a standaloner as a yinglet matriarch. Option of throwing an “unproper” child out of the enclave would thus end up as its “adoption” and upbtinging by humans, not its death. And I suppose that Vizlet would be glad to give Ran some more material for his investigations, especiallily in such matters as heredity, breeding, and socialisation.
But those are just some of so many versions.
I really doubt that Vizlet has interest in blackmailing Kass, rather, she is more likely excited by what might be seen as Kass moving to being more excepting of her new status.

This is possible. One of Kass’ most valuable assets to Vizlet is as a wild card. Vizlet is trapped by tradition and can only affect change slowly and carefully. As an outsider to yinglet society, Kass can potentially force a lot of necessary change through trying to adapt to yinglet society.
If she thinks Kass is going to join her enclave and be a leather turd factory like the other females, she has another thing coming. Having compassion for the helpless and innocent is more a sign of Kass’ humanity than any desire to lay rat-bird eggs of their own.
I’m not sure that’s the only reason why she’s geeking out like she is. To me it look’s more likely that she just realized she has some sort of political leverage over Kass for multiple things, not just egg laying.
I think she also realizes she influence Kass more than she had thought. Here comes the schemes .
Vizlet doesn’t need political leverage over Kass – if she wanted to force Kass into something, she could manipulate her without much effort due to the massive information asymmetry between them. It also seems unlikely to me that Vizlet intends to use that to get Kass to act against her own interest, in any case. It seems more likely that Vizlet is delighted because she was uncertain of the veracity of her knowledge regarding mothering instincts, and was disappointed to observe that Kass lacked them entirely – suggesting that nurturing behaviors are predominantly cultural rather than instinctive. Kass secretly assisting the hatching of a younglet, however, may seem to Vizlet to be a more honest signal of instinctive nurturing behavior than Kass’ earlier denials. She may ignore the ambiguity that arises from whether yinglet instinct or human morality was the true motivation for Kass’ actions, as she may not be well acquainted with that particular flavor of human morality (it does seem to be pretty hit or miss in this setting).
I think the Matriarch knows that certain traditions are hindering her people. Helping young out of eggs is compassionate (I think shes wanted to help the young for awhile but is too trapped by tradition) and if they have traits that are bad you just don’t let the young one breed. It doesn’t mean the little one can’t be a productive member of the enclave. Heck, most of the males don’t breed.
I also agree that the Matriarch wants to bind him to her people. Any show of compassion and empathy is a step in the right direction.

A lot of them you can Google, for example google “ stand still stay silent comic” and it will probably pop up with in the first five results. I read most of my comics through Comic Rocket, but sometimes there is a browser problem so I have to just google up a comic. Comic rocket is a web comic index that you can sign up for free, there are an inordinate amount of comics listed through that service but a lot of them are dead. A lot of others are hosted through Hiveworks or spiderforest.
Or go to topwebcomics.com and find out literally over 11.500 webcomics to choose from!
Last count on Comic Rocket was around 37,000 titles I believe, some of those need to be deleted though :/ I like Comic Rocket ‘cause it saves my place and let’s me know when I get an update most times. Top web comics is good but it only index’s them, no saving spots for later

I’m intimidated by that glow-glass eye face.
Kass is transgender for all intents and purposes. Kass is a man trapped in a fully functional woman’s body, and a yinglet at that. Kass is often sad and depressed at this fate and constantly fighting it. Vizlet finally got a reaction out of him. It rings of a setup, by more of an older sister reaching out to a younger one. By treating Kass as another intelligent woman, Vizlet is attempting to get Kass to be accepting of her fate and show her that while she used to be a man, her life as a woman is just as fulfilling, if not better. Kass has also started on the path of a leader, as when she was a guy, Kass deserted the army and fled.
Hmm, well, yes and no. Vizlet wants Kassen to adapt to the life of a female yinglet, but her reasons are not all that altruistic: by fully integrating Kassen into the enclave, Vizlet will gain a new breeding female AND an access point to all that juicy human knowledge she so craves (Oh, dooby doo, I wanna be like youuu!).
In fact, I do remember a piece of art in the author’s Deviantart page illustrating just that.

Okay, so if yinglet reproduction is basically to slice all the dna the matriarch has gathered from all the… sources… and recombine it like a bunch of leggo blocks. Then the reason they’d have so few females is that you have one mother and multiple fathers contributing a sex determining chromosome (not ours or there’s no way to avoid 50 50)
To test this hypothesis You’d need a monogamous yinglet pair…

It would seem it would take a good number of generations of selective breeding in order to begin to even out the male-to-female ratio.
