For the truth to be “painfully ugly” suggests her other half is some unwelcome race. Under traditional fantasy races, this could be Dark Elves, Oni, or Demons; while in some settings they’re very welcome, they were originally written as races that did not get along with, or perhaps were even enemies of humans.
I rather didn’t expect to hear about there being more traditional races included, but even so, there’s plenty of other potential races that could be custom, so we’re still left in the dark.
Yyyyyeaaaah I think this throws out the half-baxxid theory out the window.it can’t be THAT bad to admit being half-baxxid, so it must be much worse.
I’m still at least keeping the “related to baxxid” theory in tact… maybe it’s a split in the evolution of baxxids, both biological and cultural, that makes them monsters in every sense of the word.
Could be some form of foreign breed, too. The Baxxid of Valsalia get along with humans, but hate the idea of Baxxid who don’t, which may still be a thing outside of Valsalia.

Ah yes, Yinglet, Baaxid, Indrel, and “Mountain Elf”. All of these names are equally unique and distinctive, and surely none of them are a convenient deflection.
Jokes aside, I wonder what her race actually is for Isher to be so scared of telling anyone. I have to imagine they have a bad reputation, and if they’re not the type to interact with the outside world often, then I can only imagine they’re treated like some mythical boogeyman used to scare children. My girl Isher is already having a hard enough time without that kind of baggage, show some mercy!
I noticed the notch in Isher’s horn recently, but I just had a thought on why it might be there. I think she tried to cut her horn off sometime in the past. Now I’m wondering (assuming that’s true) what stopped her. Did it start to hurt too much? Did Kass convince her to stop? Did she just … not have the heart to go through with it?
Yeah, that’s the implication I’ve always gotten…
I assumed that was the explanation for the notch the first time she mentioned how difficult it was growing up like … this. I had assumed we would explore that during the Isher-in-the-inn storyline, but it never materialized. I assume that means it will still happen someday, just not yet.
